Rationale
|
The purpose of the Victims of Mass Hysteria webquest is to show
students that the theme of mass hysteria is by no means unique to the Salem
Witch Trials. It exists throughout our history to the present day.
By completing this webquest, the students will be able to make connections
between the Salem Witch Trials, the internment of Japanese-Americans during
WWII, the McCarthy Hearings, and the Robert Roberson child abuse case,
thereby adding to the relevance of our studying Arthur Miller's The
Crucible. |
Objectives
|
Students will
research an assigned historical event according to the
criteria listed on the Reporter's
Notes page. |
Students will
determine the credibility of web sites according to the
criteria listed on the Web
Page Evaluation form. |
Students will
compare/contrast assigned historical events by creating a
Venn
diagram and a list. |
Paying special
attention to the role of mass hysteria, students will
analyze the causes and effects of their assigned
historical event, by
writing a newspaper article. |
Working in a
group, students will create a newspaper consisting of their
articles and at least four photographs, one for
each historical event. |
